What begins as a rescue mission develops into a larger mystery involving the settlements, outsiders and creatures of a changed Sera. The campaign combines cinematic storytelling with the series' muscular cover-based combat and spectacular action sequences.
Players can use familiar weapons such as the Lancer alongside new firearms and environmental tactics, including pulling enemies from cover. The full campaign supports solo and cooperative play, while Horde mode challenges a team to build defences and survive escalating waves. Competitive multiplayer provides additional classes, maps and modes. Gears of War 4 is a strong continuation for existing fans and an accessible starting point for newcomers.
