Harry, Ron and Hermione leave Hogwarts to search for Voldemort's Horcruxes while the wizarding world falls under hostile control. The game adapts characters, locations and events from the first Deathly Hallows film.

The design places greater emphasis on third-person spell combat than earlier Harry Potter games. Players use different spells for attacking, defending and manipulating the environment while avoiding Death Eaters and other threats.
